Это метод теплового лечения, для которого применяется озокерит — ископаемый горный воск нефтяного происхождения.
Вещество обладает очень ценными свойствами: он отличается высокой теплоемкостью и невероятно низкой теплопроводностью. То есть, даже нагретый до 60-70 градусов, озокерит не вызывает ожогов на коже, так как при соприкосновении с поверхностью тела нижний слой вещества моментально приобретает температуру, близкую к температуре тела, и дальнейшая отдача тепла из более глубоких слоев происходит постепенно.
Способность озокерита удерживать тепло очень велика: она равна 1875 секундам, а это едва ли не в 4 раза больше, чем у лечебной грязи, и намного больше, чем у парафина.
Озокерит оказывает рассасывающее, противовоспалительное, болеутоляющее и антиспастическое действие. Механический фактор обусловлен способностью этого вещества с падением температуры уменьшаться в размерах примерно на 10-12%, как и парафин.
Это способствует легкому сдавливанию органов и тканей, на которые наложен озокеритовый компресс. Наиболее эффективное воздействие происходит при наложении кругового компресса, охватывающего, например, конечности. Сдавливание органов и тканей сопровождается тепловым воздействием на них, что намного увеличивает результативность процедуры, так как это способствует уменьшению отеков посредством оттока лимфы и жидкости из определенных областей.
Химический фактор обусловлен наличием в озокерите активных биологических веществ, которые способны проникать через кожу в кровь и вызывать нужный эффект.

язва желудка и двенадцатиперстной кишки без склонности к кровотечениям, хронический холецистит, хронический колит, хронический гепатит без повышения темпера-туры, заболевания периферической нервной системы и спинного мозга, болезни кожи, тромбофлебит и заболевания сосудов, хронические заболевания женской половой сферы, лор-заболевания.Противопоказания:
